Germany and Dokomi - #dokomibooty & "I TRIED OKAY" 1/2

I decided to write separately about Dokomi and rest of the Germany trip as it felt wisest and shortest :'D I start with Dokomi because that's what you guys want to know more anyway. The con was held in Dusseldorf expo center which was about 30 minutes away from our apartment. Weather on Saturday was very warm, it was little bit cooler on Sunday.
Saturday morning we left to find the subway station from where we should get to the con location. Good thing we happened to spot a couple of cosplayers so we sneakily followed them! The subway itself was full of cosplayers so it was not a problem to get off on the right stop or to see where to go from there : D
When we got to expo center there were still huge lines. Or few lines? Someone who looked like con worker yelled instructions in German and we asked him to translate and he pointed us the right line. Which fused with another line at some point. And that fused with third line. And this separated into at least two lines depending did you already have a ticket or if you were going to purchase it there. Though I think everyone still ended up to same door and on the purchase line there were also people with tickets in hands. We waited about 40-50 minutes in the end.
And at Dokomi they didn't have any wristbands or badges, the tickets were scanned at the door everytime you entered or left. Which I in the way understand because that way they make sure no one stays there during the night. But it also meant that if you needed to leave the con area at some point you had to wait in line again when you return.

My final line up for the trip!

Dokomi is held in FOUR big expo halls. In their website it says they expected about 40 000 visitors during the weekend. With quick googling I found that at Tracon, which is one of our biggest cons, has got about 5500 visitors on previous years :---)))))
From the entrance you got to dealers hall, where like in our cons they sold plushies, figurines etc anime stuff. There were also many wig stands, cosplay-costumes, cosplay supplied, worbla, hug pillows, Potter stand, Japanese dishes, kimonos, movie posters, katanas... list goes on.
We didn't get too far from the entrance when Anae and Convallaria, in their YOI cosplays, were already surrounded by fangirls. We took a quick look around the nearest stands and then headed out. Between the halls there was a big out door area which had some food stalls. There weren't so many people outside yet as it was quite early but during the con many hung out there. It's sad there weren't many benches apart from the ones  that belonged to the cafe so you had to sit on the ground for the most of the time.
We went to the next from where we found the artist alley. I knew Dokomi apparently had the biggest artist alley of Germany but I still wasn't expecting this big! You could spend whole day if you wanted to explore every single table thoroughly. There were also few cosplayers selling prints. In the one corner had gaming section and there were also photo booths, one you needed to pay for which I suppose was the con's official one, and few free ones with set ups (class room, Sailor Moon etc) where you could take photos with your own camera.
At some point me and Laa Laa separated from other two as they ended up chatting with someone. We strolled around the artist alley for a while and then went to check the hall next to this one. There were workshops and apparently some kind of second hand shop. Also there were bouncing castles! There were a obstacle course and some shooting area at least. The obstacle course would have been nice but it had so long line I gave up. We went back to the dealers hall to see it better. I put my con loot to the end, since I can't remember when I bought which thing xD We bought at least some melon pan and went to artist alley hall sit sit as it was only place with tables and chairs. We got message from other two that they had gone to get seats for cosplay competition, so we made our way there after resting a while.

I didn't take too many photos in the end, but there were so many people and the place was so big it was a bit hard XD

The competition was held (again) in its own hall. The previous program was still going on, some kind of musical thing. I recognized some Conan characters but that's all as I don't understand German :''D
Saturdays competitions was apparently some Germany Championships, which was pair contest. The skits weren't really good, but the costumes were nice. My favorite was Nausicaa pair, you couldn't even first tell there were two people performing (they didn't show up at stage at same time), we thought it was very quick change of clothes at first! The thing here seemed to be that all the speech from the skit was spoken directly to the mic. And it was not the kind of that goes to your head, but the usual one you have to hold in your hand. Ok?
The host of the competition flatted the feeling a bit as he kept babbling between the skits way too much. The competition went way over when it was supposed to end because of this. We don't know who won as they didn't announce it here. Don't know if it happened at some kind of ending ceremony or something?
This hall was the only place where internet worked in the con. For everyone expect me :----) try to get contact on your local friends when only way to do so is Twitter and Instagram.
After competition we went to look for food and ended up with center's own cafe, which didn't have much opinions tho (we didn't dare to use the outdoor stalls or wok place next to it as we had allergy people with us). While eating my dry bratwurst+bread (=sausage and dry brad bun, nothing else, not even butter for the bread) I kinda missed Desucon and Lastu's food.
We went to check the wok place with Anae to see what it had to offer and happened to bump into three ohter Finns! We talked and salted with them for a while (they has waited for two hours in the morning!) Too bad we didn't see them anymore during the con :<
Rest of the day we strolled around the dealers hall and artist alley and drank bubbleteas out side (I had never tasted those). The con ended at 8 pm, we went to hotel to change and then went to eat. First real, warm meal at 11 pm, I think this is a record xD

Sunday morning went a bit faster and we left bit earlier than Saturday. Unfortunately we found out that in Germany stores aren't open on Sunday. Luckily there was one small kiosk that was open so we got something to drink and small snacks to the con.
First thing we shopped at the dealers hall and artist alley for the things we hadn't bought day before and our friends had asked for stuff.
There were cosplay competition also on Sunday and we went there early to get seats. While we waited there was some kind of auction where you could buy the company of the hosts and cosplayers for a couple of hours. I don't know if they were serious with this as the prices went up to hundreads of euros o____o Little bit before the competition started I sneaked away because I had agreed to meet Nami at 1pm. We hung out together for a while (she and her friend were very sweet :3 also I appreciate that even though she said she's not good in English she still tried to speak it)

They don't sell unicorn toilet paper at our artist alleys!
Menin kattomaan loput kisat.

I went to see the rest of the competition. I had missed the costume contest and the ECC prelims were on going I think? I only saw a couple of skits, but apparently they weren't much better than previous day. There were one or two good ones. Also in Germany you're apparently allowed to enter to the cometitions on both days with the same costume, as one contestant was same as on Saturday's.
I don't really remember what happened on the rest of the day, I guess we just went to sit and eat. We took some photos outside and went around the con still for a while. Then we went to see the big park on the other side of the road. It was really pretty, but so full of people that we decided to come back next day to photoshoot. We left back to town to get food.

Snake charmer Aladdin xD Snake (Kuroshitsuji) - Convallaria, kuva - Anae

Dokomi was overall nice con. Of course it was bigger and different from ours. But pretty much only real minus was the ticket system. People were really nice and when we told we can't speak German they spoke us English. The variety of cosplays was wide, there weren't big bunch from one series but from everything from A to Z, even older series. The style that you only wear costume but no wig or anything else was popular. There were also much more people without cosplay compared to our cons. There were lots of older visitors as well as very small children.
The con was held at this location for the first time, so I forgive some problems for that. Already at Sunday morning the lining system was lot better.
Interesting point was that there were hardly any con workers or security. Apart from the ticket checkers at the entrance I probably saw only three during whole con? Outside there were security only at the security check and at the gates. At  the time we arrived the check was made only for here and there, but I think they tried to do it for everyone at first if the other Finns had waited for two hours.
But over all I'm happy we went there :> It was a bit downer that I got sick during weekend but I survived the con pretty well and it only hit me worse on Sunday evening.
I'm not sure if I'd go to this specific convention again but I'd definitely want to visit other German cons!

Con loot:

Meidän reissun häsä oli tosiaan #dokomibooty. En enää ees muista mistä tää tuli, mut enivei sen seurauksena kaikista meijän cosseista otettiin booty-kuva! Miinus mun Lyserg näköjään (hyvä koska jos ois ollu yks kuva lisää tän kollaasin tekeminen ois hankaloitunu (I tried okay) xD)

Our trip's hashtag was #dokomibooty. I don't even remember where this came from but anyway it meant that we took booty photos of all our cosplays! Minus my Lyserg apparently (good since if I'd had one more photo making this would have been hard (I tried okay.) xD)

Tsau! o/
